Above are stills from a now banned video from the Black Belles  girls.

You can read the whole story at Third Man Records, but the short version is that the single cover and video were deemed too eyeshocking by focus groups, thus, resulting in them both being “shelved”. (Except of course for 300 copies of the original gory vinyl covers available for a small fortune from the Third man Records store in Nashville.)

Sounds like typical Third Man glittering gimmickery, which I usually love and respect and I have to say has made them game-changers in the business of selling records. But my question is, does anyone care? Do you still care about these girls??

I remember hearing about these girls a couple of years ago and being so excited by their strong look and just itching to hear their music, but then there was nothing from them for forever. (Except seeing one of them playing bass for Karen Elson and Wanda Jackson on occasion.) This all just feels like a little too much waaay too late - a desperate attempt to ramp up some interest in a band that has all but been forgotten about and who are, frankly, not so special in the first place.

Whatever happened to just earning your dollar the old fashioned way - by being a darn good band and gigging your ass off?
Besides the Vault collectors and the Jack White enthusiasts, I’m not sure who the third men think is going pay the extraextra green just for an alternate picture of the girls (which will no doubt surface on our great internet sooner rather than later) and a colored vinyl,  based on some clever wording and a two minute single released two years ago?

Justsayin, I’d rather someone tried to get me excited about their music before asking me for mah monehhh.
